A GROUP opposed to coalition cuts has been launched.

Spen Valley Against The Cuts kicked off their campaign with a banner drop on the bridge at the bottom of Westgate in Cleckheaton.

There have also been a number of posters put up throughout the area, also conveying their anti-cuts message, which they say will be the start of more actions.

A spokesman said: “We feel that the proposed cuts and rise in university tuition fees will harm working class people most, especially those who are unemployed, still in education and those with disabilities.

“As well as focusing on being against any proposed cuts by the government, we also want to highlight how the 'super rich' live.

“Big name brands are avoiding paying taxes, which if they were collected could be used to help pay off the debt the country is currently in.

“There are alternatives to the proposed cuts in public services, but the government are just choosing not to consider them.

“We stand in solidarity with all those affected by the cuts and those who are taking a stand against them, and encourage more people to take a stand with us.

“We feel the student protesters who have taken to the streets and occupied spaces at universities have shown the way, but to back up these actions we need people from all sections of society working together, because the issues that affect students and those that affect workers are the same.”
