THE Examiner's Schools Collect for Cash competition starts today and we are asking you to collect special tokens to help your local school win a share of s11,000.

Readers need to collect as many tokens as possible from the Huddersfield Daily Examiner and through our community website, myExaminer.

The first token appeared today and online here.

Tokens will appear every day from today until Saturday February 19.

Simply cut out the tokens and drop them into your local school or the Examiner office but make sure you tell us which school you are collecting for.

You can also collect virtual tokens online every day by visiting the Myexaminer website here.

First, register on the website and activate the email we send you. You will then be able to search for your local school in our gallery and click on the schools logo to collect a token for them.

Only schools that have registered for the promotion will appear in the gallery.

Examiner senior marketing executive Natasha Maskery said: With the support of Barclays, this years schools competition will see the Examiner give away more money than ever before.

With a share of s11,000 up for grabs, schools have been registering to take part in the promotion but now they need your help.

So whether you have school-aged children, grandchildren, neighbours or friends, the Examiners Schools Collect for Cash promotion can really help them. This is how the cash is broken down and it means several schools will end up winners.

Schools with the highest number of tokens per pupil will win s2,000 (first), s1,000 (second) and s500 (third).

Schools that collect most tokens will win s2,000 (first), s1,000 (second) and s500 (third).

Barclays will judge schools with the best suggestions of how they can promote financial education to pupils. Again there are three prizes s2,000 (first), s1,000 (second) and s500 (third).

All schools that have collected at least 100 tokens and have not won a main prize will be entered into a draw to win s500.

Collect as many tokens as you can from the Examiner and encourage friends and family to collect tokens online to help your chosen school.

Last year, Wilberlee Junior and Infant School in Slaithwaite won s2,500 and used it towards paying for new playground equipment.

Headteacher Richard Bottom said: Its timber-framed with large swings and a rope climb. The pupils on the School Council researched and chose it and the children use it every day be it wet, dry or ice outside.

We were looking for something adventurous and substantial and it has gone down great with the kids.

Barclays community investment manager Marie Morris said: We put our energy, resources and expertise into partnerships with a range of charities with a particular focus on the 16-25 age group.

The programme includes a comprehensive range of materials that we make available to schools.

Barclays staff from across the UK volunteer their time to help us deliver the programme in a range of settings from classrooms to community centres.
