Kirklees Council social worker admits ignoring abuse warnings on murdered Huddersfield tot

Sanam Navsarka

A SOCIAL worker admitted today that she ignored warnings that a two-year-old girl was being abused, one week before she was murdered by her mother's partner.

Sanam Navsarka, of Riddings Road, Deighton, died on May 8 2008 following weeks of appalling abuse in which she suffered more than 100 horrific injuries.

Subhan Anwar was jailed for a minimum of 23 years for her murder, while her mother, Zahbeena Navsarka, was jailed for nine years after being found guilty of her manslaughter.

Judyth Kenworthy, a former Family Placement Officer at Kirklees Council, admitted she failed to pass on warnings from a carer on May 1 2008 that Sanam was being physically abused, to her manager, a social worker allocated to the toddler's aunt, or the council's duty and assessment team.

At a General Social Care Council conduct hearing in central London, Ms Kenworthy also agreed that as a result of her actions no measures were taken to safeguard Sanam.

She also admitted withholding the information when she gave a statement to police.
