WORK is nearing completion on a £3m engineering works in Huddersfield.

Textile machinery specialist Sellers Engineers is set to move from its site at Chapel Hill to new 48,000sq ft premises at Trident Business Park, off Leeds Road at Deighton in the spring.

Sellers Engineers, founded in 1912 and employing 75 people, is switching sites to make way for the Waterfront Quarter – a £150m mixed-use development taking shape on land bordering Chapel Hill, Manchester Road and the River Colne.

Work is already well under way on the new campus for Kirklees College at the Waterfront site.

Leeds-based GMI Construction Group is building Sellers’ new headquarters on behalf of Trident Business Park developer Landmark Developments. GMI has also landed a £1m contract to fit-out the new premises.

David Armitage, chairman of Sellers, said: “GMI has done a tremendous job in building our new premises on time during the most atrocious weather.

“We are delighted with the result and look forward to an equally successful fit-out.”

Jarrod Best, the managing director of the GMI Construction Group, said: “This new contract provides us with a great opportunity to continue what we have already achieved with the design and build of Sellers’ new premises.

“It is particularly heartening to be working on a UK manufacturing success story, when many manufacturers are under pressure.

“Sellers are world leaders in their sector and we believe their new base at Trident Business Park will equip them perfectly to tackle future challenges.

“We will need to work quickly, as it is imperative there is no break in Sellers’ manufacturing process during their move.

“The fit-out needs to be completed by the end of March and we are confident we will meet that deadline. The main building will be completed at the beginning of March.”

The construction of the new facility for Sellers represents the final phase of the award-winning 27-acre Trident Business Park.

GMI Construction has already delivered new commercial buildings for Mercedes Benz, Audi, and discount retailer Instore on the Trident site.
