MORE investigations are to be made into "The Oakes stink".
And that’s welcome news for neighbours who have been living with the foul smell for over two years.
Robert Jarvis, whose house on New Hey Road is one of the worst hit, said homes and businesses within a mile radius have complained of nasty odours akin to raw sewage.
There have been concerns the pong is coming from drains linked to the Newsholme Food Group meat factory on New Hey Road but tests have proved inconclusive.
And the problem of the stench still hasn’t been solved despite complaints to Kirklees Council’s Environmental Services department, Yorkshire Water, and factory owners.
Mr Jarvis said: "Currently Yorkshire Water are trying to solve the problem by blocking up my coal chute which will hopefully stop the smell coming into my house.
"But it won’t stop the smell to my neighbours’ houses because it is coming from their drains.
"It’s getting to the point where I’m prepared to pay for the whole path to be excavated myself to find out where it’s coming from."
Mr Jarvis, a guitar teacher, said he’s embarrassed when students come to his house for lessons.
The 44-year-old said: "Once it was so strong that one of the students nearly threw up.
"And they are only here for an hour – I’ve got to be here all day and night.
"It just goes on and on and on and I can’t get away from it."
Mr Jarvis said he wants someone to take responsibility for getting rid of the foul odour.
He said: "I’m not usually a complainer. I don’t want anyone blamed in this – I just want the smell to go away.
