Examiner puts end to two-year Quarmby parking misery

TWO years of parking misery for Quarmby residents was resolved in just two hours – thanks to the Examiner.

People living in Quarmby Road have had to contend with £50 penalty fines and parking hassles because of signs that were years out of date.

The signs had been erected on either side of the former Quarmby Post Office in Quarmby Road to provide parking spaces for customers.

But long after the office shut down in 2008, the signs limiting parking to just 30 minutes were kept in place by Kirklees Council.

That meant residents like Mark Kelly, 33, faced a possible parking ticket every time he left his car outside his own home.

“I received a parking ticket the other day for parking in the ‘No return within 60 mins’ zone outside my house on Quarmby Road.

“Although my car is parked in this zone and does breach the terms of the sign, this parking zone is no longer used for its original purpose and isn’t required.
