A BUS has crashed on Far Dene at Highburton.

The single decker Huddersfield Bus Company vehicle crashed into a wall on the street at 8.05am today.

The driver, a man in his 40s, suffered neck injuries and was initially treated on the bus. He was subsequently taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary for more treatment.

His injuries are not believed to be serious.

There were more than 20 passengers on the number 81 bus which was on the way to Huddersfield after calling in at Clayton West and Skelmanthorpe.

One passenger, a man in his 50s, suffered a minor knee injury. Another four also suffered minor injuries.

The bus was described as being at a 'precarious' angle on the road and was leaking fuel.

Fire officers closed the road and washed away the spilt diesel. The road was closed until around 12.30pm today.

David Shelley, commercial director for Centrebus, who own the Huddersfield Bus Company, said "An incident such as this will warrant a full investigation, and we will not be jumping to any conclusions or speculating about what may have caused the crash.
