Huddersfield’s Skipton Building Society are helping to saving pennies and puppies
HE’d been left to die.
But now a puppy found abandoned by the side of the road has been rescued by a kindhearted couple and staff at a building society.
The little border collie was found by the side of a country road near Crow Edge by Ronald and Pauline Lowe, of Barnsley.
The couple spotted the motionless puppy as they were driving into Huddersfield to do some banking.
So they scooped up the frightened and weak pup and took him to safety.
But being unfamiliar with Huddersfield and not knowing where the dog shelters were, they took him into the Skipton Building Society at Ramsden Street to seek help.
Staff at the Skipton did more than point them in the right direction – customer advisor Sue Riley decided to give the pup a home.
Thanks to their rescue Skips, full name Skipton, is now a boisterous nine-week-old border collie who lives on a farm at Outlane.
Pauline Lowe, 75, and her husband Ronald, 82, say they would have loved to adopt Skips, but say their age and the fact they have a blind 12-year-old Labrador Ben made it difficult.
Mrs Lowe said: “I can’t believe anyone would just leave a dog like we found him. If I met the person who did I’d have a right go at them.
“We just didn’t know where to take him so came to the Skipton. But I knew as we left him with Sue that he was going to a good home.”
