Birkby couple jetting off to Florida for golden wedding celebration

“HE is the light of my life”, said Ann Jepson as she and husband Colin celebrated their golden wedding on Friday.

Mr Jepson, 71, and his 70-year-old wife, of Norwood Road, Birkby, will mark the occasion with a meal with family at the Nag’s Head, at Ainley Top.

They will then jet off to Orlando, Florida, for two weeks with their granddaughter and her partner.

The couple, who have a son and a daughter and four grandchildren, met at a dance at Greenhead Masonic Hall and were married at Holy Trinity Church, Trinity Street.

Colin worked as an estimating manager at David Brown Gears, Lockwood, and Ann was a mender at James Shires, of Milnsbridge.

Mrs Jepson said: “He was a good looking lad with a nice personality and he is the light of my life.”

And the secret of a happy marriage? “Don’t go to bed on an argument”, she added.

The couple enjoyed crown green bowling and Mrs Jepson still takes part at Canalside, Leeds Road.
