Kirklees scrutiny panel to look at council housing

THE debate on who runs Huddersfield’s council housing continues next week.

A Kirklees scrutiny panel will hold a special meeting on April 15 to review the decision to extend the existing Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing Contract for a further five years to allow the development of an enhanced model.

The decision on KNH, taken by Cabinet on March 22, has been subsequently ‘called in’ by Tory councillors for review which means no action can be taken to implement the decision until it has been fully considered by the Development and Environment Scrutiny Panel.

The panel will meet at 10am at Huddersfield Town Hall on April 15 and will focus on the grounds of the call in.

Although the panel does not have the power to overturn the decision it can recommend that the Cabinet considers amending the decision once it has considered the evidence presented at the hearing.

During the morning session the panel will be hearing evidence from councillors concerned about the decision.

Members of the public are invited to contribute.

Anyone wishing to address the panel should contact Laura Ellis at the Legal and Governance Office to register that they wish to speak.

She can be contacted on 01484 221916 by 5pm on Thursday, April 14.
