Rotary Club honour for David Sumner

HUDDERSFIELD Rotary Club has honoured a man who battled to restore the town’s Narrow Canal.

The club marked its 89th Charter Night by presenting the Harris Fellowship award to David Sumner MBE, of Huddersfield Canal Society.

Mr Sumner was guest speaker at the Rotary Club’s dinner at the George Hotel, Huddersfield, and received the award from president Ann Denham.

It was a night of coincidences, as 10 years ago Mrs Denham was Mayor of Kirklees and re-opened the canal alongside Mr Sumner.
