HIGHWAYS chiefs have announced the timetable for congestion busting M62 improvement work.
The ‘Managed Motorway’ scheme is set to tackle the notorious stretch of motorway from Brighouse to Leeds by opening up the hard shoulder to traffic between J25 and J30.
Work will begin between October and December 2011.
The project is predicted to be half as expensive as widening the road and should take half as long to complete. No timescale has yet been revealed for this work.
The M62 project is one of 14 schemes to get the go ahead with Managed Motorway schemes planned for the M1 near Sheffield and between junctions 8 and 15 of the M60 around Manchester.
Roads minister, Mike Penning said: “These schemes will deliver vital investment across the strategic road network, driving economic growth and boosting the UK economy.
“They will also provide much-needed additional capacity – easing congestion and making journey times more reliable for road users, including hauliers and commuters.”
