ARE You Being Served? and Last of the Summer Wine star Trevor Bannister, has died aged 76.
The actor, who played ladies’ man Mr Lucas in the popular department store sitcom, died on Thursday.
Mr Bannister, who also played ‘Golf Captain’ Toby Mulbery-Smith in the Holme Valley based sitcom between 2001 and 2009, was found unconscious at his allotment in Thames Ditton in Surrey.
The cause of his death is not known.
Summer Wine director, Alan J Bell, paid tribute to Mr Bannister and said he was greatly upset by his shock death.
He said: “Trevor was a good friend as well as being a great actor.
He only lived a quarter mile from me in Thames Ditton.
“Brian Wilde who played Foggy suggested him for a part as they’d worked together before.
“He came to the series on a guest basis and as more and more people got to like him we brought him on as a regular.
“Over the years and living so close he would come over with his wife for dinner. We were really good friends.
“Yesterday he was working on a new roof for a hut he had on his allotment.
“His wife went home to get something and when she returned he was lying on the roof and they thought he had fallen asleep.”
