Shop’s sausages set to be a sweet surprise
THEY are renowned for their prize-winning bangers.
But as tasty as their sausages are, even butchers at Bolster Moor Farm Shop were unconvinced that they could pull off their latest recipe request.
The team were asked to conjure up a sausage made of pork – and chocolate.
To their surprise the ingredients worked and the new ‘Easter sausage’ is expected to be a big hit with customers when it goes on sale next week.
And they have seven-year-old Ashley Smith to thank, as she came up with the chocolaty concoction.
The shop, at Harden Road Farm, is the current holder of the Champion of Champions Award – the highest accolade for a sausage maker in Britain.
It asked customers to come up with an original sausage recipe to celebrate National Butcher’s Week, which took place last month.
Locals were urged to let their imaginations run wild and they did just that as the shop was inundated with weird and wonderful suggestions.
The butchers made and cooked batches of the top recipes, which were chicken, pesto and sundried tomato, pork with hot jalapeno peppers – and pork and chocolate.
Shop owner Simon Haigh said: “We asked people to come up with a completely new recipe and we had over 100 entries which was a fantastic response.
“We expected a lot of people to come up with the same ideas but we had some really imaginative suggestions.
