NORA Batty’s Holmfirth cottage has been put up for sale.

The Huddersfield Road cottage appeared in dozens of episodes of The Last Of The Summer Wine from 1973 onwards.

Millions loved watching the late star’s feisty doorstep encounters with her mischief-making neighbour Compo.

Nora, played by the late Kathy Staff, was often seen sweeping the steps with her brush before swinging it at cheeky chap Compo.

For the last five years fans of the hit show have been able to rent the self-catering cottage as a holiday let.

The house, formerly occupied by two tenants for over 20 years, was opened as a holiday cottage in January, 2006, by Kathy Staff, who died aged 80 in 2008.

Up to six visitors could stay at the house, near to the other famous Summer Wine sites, including Sids Cafe, The White Horse pub and the famous steps that Compo ran up, for between £270 and £660 a week.

But the future of the popular attraction, which once featured on ITV’s daytime show This Morning, is now in doubt after it was put on the market by owner Neil Worthington.

Waterloo-born Worthington, who runs Worthington Brown Design next door, bought the cottage for £80,000 in 2004.

Mr Worthington said he was reluctantly selling the iconic home to focus on his other businesses.

He said: “Once they stopped filming (Summer Wine) it’s just got busier and busier.

“It’s probably one of the most successful things we’ve done.
