Severn Unival helps parent group win Queen’s Award
WORKERS at a Huddersfield engineering firm are celebrating today – as winners of the coveted Queen’s Award for Enterprise.
Employees at valves business Severn Unival helped parent group The Severn Glocon Group plc clinch one of the biggest prizes in business.
The group was named a winner in the category for international trade – recognising its success in more than doubling export earnings in the past three years.
Severn Glocon Group designs and makes specialist valves for the energy industry in markets, including the Middle East, the Far East, Europe, Canada, the USA and the North Sea.
Severn Unival, which has 80 employees and is based at Milford Street, is responsible for repairing, upgrading and replacing control valves used in some of the most hostile natural environments.
The firm, which won the category for international trade in the 2009 Examiner Business Awards, has operated in the town for more than 25 years.
Among its successes last year, Severn Unival won a major valve order from Saudi Aramco, the state-owned oil company of Saudi Arabia and the largest oil corporation in the world. It also won orders from Oman, Qatar and Norway.
