Cooper Bridge travellers could stay until Wednesday
TRAVELLERS have remained on a site at Cooper Bridge.
Six caravans and around four large vehicles moved on to the site on Saturday morning.
One of the travelling men told the Examiner last night it would be “Tuesday or Wednesday” before they decided whether to move on.
The reason for that is because many Kirklees Council staff do not return to work on Tuesday, instead having an extra Bank Holiday and returning on Wednesday.
The travellers are living on a grassed area at Cooper Bridge, near the entrance to the sewage works and John Cottons’ textile mill.
It’s not clear who the land belongs to as it’s just off Cooper Bridge Road near the works and factory site behind a wall off the busy road.
The news comes just two weeks after travellers made an illegal camp half a mile away at a Mirfield garden centre.
The company hired by Whiteley’s Garden Centre had to pay for a security team to move them on.
