A SNAIL with attitude and character is leading visitors to Beaumont Park on a woodland trail.
Monty the Snail was invented by Crosland Moor Junior School pupil Alex Kingsbury after the Friends of Beaumont Park asked pupils to design a mascot for its nature leaflet.
Funding was obtained from the Lottery’s Awards for All fund to produce Monty’s tree trail leaflet aimed at children aged six to 13 years.
The leaflet was designed by ID30 Ltd at Lindley from information supplied by the Friends of Beaumont Park and is now available from the tea room and leaflet dispenser on the depot wall.
Part of the Awards for All grant also provided pond dipping equipment.
Kirklees Council has now put up new railings and a gate around the lower pond (part funded by Friends of Beaumont Park).
Schools may ask the park warden to bring groups along to the park to do pond dipping.
