COUNCIl workers who have to work through the Royal Wedding will get extra perks.
Kirklees Council have agreed a deal with their staff despite the fact they are getting no extra cash to fund the bank holiday payments.
The move comes after the union Unison argued that many hundreds would be working for no extra reward.
Unison officials feared people such as care workers and social workers would not be paid extra.
But now it has been revealed that those who are working will get either double time or time and a half and a day in lieu.
Most council services, however, such as libraries, town halls and information centres will be closed.
A council spokesman said: “Kirklees Council services will run in line with usual bank holiday practice on Friday.
“This means that non-essential services will be closed or run reduced hours, although care services will continue to operate and refuse collection will run as full a service as possible”.
The council’s director of resources David Smith said: “Kirklees, along with every other council, has severe financial challenges, and has received no additional funding to meet the cost of the holiday.
“However we recognise that employees should be appropriately rewarded for working the bank holiday. Our offer is in line with terms and conditions in the Employee Handbook.
