MOTORISTS have been put at risk after highways chiefs allegedly ignored a four-feet deep hole on a busy road, a man has claimed.
Examiner reader Jim Radcliffe said he reported the cavernous hole on Birkdale Lane, Paddock to Kirklees Council more than two weeks ago.
Three cones were put around the hole – even though the council has denied any knowledge of the problem.
The narrow lane, which links Manchester Road with Paddock, features a blind bend, a sharp gradient and a hump back bridge.
“It’s absolutely ridiculous,” said Mr Radcliffe.
“It’s been like that for almost three weeks, it’s four or five feet deep, I don’t know where it goes to?
“It’s on a blind bend, the council should have blocked the road off, a car could fall down the hole.
“There’s no excuse, somebody’s going to get badly hurt or killed.”
A Kirklees Council spokesman said they were not aware of the problem.
He said: “We have not received any reports about a hole at this location, but we are now investigating along with colleagues from Yorkshire Water.”
