A JUDGE plans to commend the “out-numbered” police officers who tried to restore order during violent clashes between rival Huddersfield Town and Millwall fans a year ago.
Judge Peter Benson will sentence more than a dozen Town supporters and six Millwall followers next month following the terrifying disturbance outside the Waterloo pub at Wakefield Road, Huddersfield, last April.
Yesterday a seventh Millwall fan was cleared by a jury of involvement in the violence.

Judge Benson indicated that Pc Mark Coulson, who described the incident as the most frightening of his nine-year police career, and two other colleagues would be commended at a later date for their actions in trying to restore order.
The rival fans clashed in what was labelled “The Battle of Waterloo” after three minibuses carrying Millwall supporters came under attack from missiles, including bottles and stones being thrown by Town supporters.
Pc Coulson described in a statement how he saw about 60 people involved in the clashes, which resulted in damage to a shop window and vehicles in the area.
