Sad death of 81-year-old Marsh road traffic victim Marjorie Johnston

NEIGHBOURS have been paying tribute to a Marsh woman who died after being hit by a car near her home.

They have described Marjorie Johnston, of Lawrence Road as “a lovely lady” and “a genuine neighbour” following the tragedy.

Police have appealed for witnesses after 81-year-old widow Mrs Johnston was hit by a Toyota Avensis car on Westbourne Road, near the junction with Eldon Road around 10.05pm on Sunday, May 1.

She was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary but died later of her injuries.

Mrs Johnston lived alone at her terraced home and is understood to have two daughters, one living in Halifax, and two grandchildren.

Retired newsagents Douglas and Joan Bailey, who live across the road, said Mrs Johnston had lived in Lawrence Road for around 20 years.
