A POTENTIAL robber armed with an axe threatened a shop worker.

The axe-man went into a Crosland Moor off-licence to demand cash.

But he didn’t count on one of the shop’s workers, a 24-year-old man, to stand up to him.

The incident happened at Moor End Stores on Moor End Road at 9.30pm on Friday night.

Now police are appealing for people to help trace the man.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “At around 9.30pm a man wearing a balaclava and jeans went into Moor End Stores on Moor End Road and threatened staff with an axe, demanding money.

“A 24-year-old man working in the store at the time challenged the suspect and forced him out of the shop.

“The suspect, who was believed to be white and around 6ft tall, then ran off down Walpole Road.

“No-one was hurt during the incident and nothing was stolen from the store.”

The attempted robbery came just days after an armed robbery, also in Crosland Moor.

Police are looking at possible links between the two incidents.
