YEDL leave residents in the dark over reason for Almondbury power cuts

RESIDENTS on a road in Almondbury have suffered weeks of power cuts.

People at Kaye Lane have lost electricity for up to 15 hours.

Patricia Oliver, 66, who lives there said: “The power wasn’t off as long in Japan after the earthquake.”

Residents at Kaye Lane first lost electricity on April 4 for five hours.

And since then, they have suffered several similar problems.

Mrs Oliver said: “I was looking after my one-year-old grandson at the time. It was difficult not being able to cook anything or make a hot drink.

“The power cut affected all my neighbours. It broke four people’s alarms, they had to pay £65 to get them fixed.”

The electricity went off on the street for a second time on April 7 for two hours and again the following day for another two hours.

Mrs Oliver said: “I was having some relatives over from Leeds who I hadn’t seen for a long time.

“There were eight people coming to lunch and I needed to put the stew and dumplings in the oven at 11am.

“When the power still wasn’t back on by 1pm, I gave up and went to the fish and chip shop.

“When I got back the power was back on.”
