A PARKING camera van has already caught dozens of inconsiderate drivers.
Kirklees Council launched its CCTV vehicle last Monday to catch motorists who parkillegally.
The council has revealed that 40 penalty charge notices have been issued in the vehicle’s first week on the roads with the first of those caught due to have the £70 fines dropping on their doormats in the coming days.
Kirklees hopes the vehicle can catch 1,500 inconsiderate parkers in the first year, bringing in £100,000 in fines.
To meet the target, the van would have to find 29 illegal parkers a week.
The vehicle is particularly targeting motorists who park on zigzag lines outside schools, or in loading bays, bus stops and double yellow lines.
Cameras fitted to the roof of the van produce high-quality images. They also have Automatic Number Plate Recognition, which police use to spot cars which are uninsured.
The van’s cameras can take pictures on the move.
