Rail firms urge patience from Huddersfield Town fans on journey to Manchester United's Old Trafford ground

EXTRA rail carriages are being laid on to ferry Town fans to Old Trafford on Sunday.

Rail bosses also hope to get some extra trains to cope with demand.

But the message from rail companies ahead of the big play-off game against Peterborough is: Allow plenty of time for the journey.

No more pre-bookings will be allowed and there are expected to be long queues at the railway stations before and after the match.

First TransPennine Express (FTPE), which manages Huddersfield Railway Station and operates services to and from Manchester, and Northern Rail are anticipating large numbers of Terriers’ fans to travel to the huge end of season finale.

Town have sold over 30,000 tickets for the showcase game and thousands are expected to follow the Terriers by train.

FTPE operates three trains an hour between Huddersfield and Manchester Piccadilly, leaving at 01, 17 and 28 minutes past the hour. Journey times to Manchester Piccadilly are approximately 35 minutes.

Northern Rail has services to Manchester Victoria, again with three an hour.

Edith Rodgers, FTPE’s Customer Services Director, said: “Trains between Huddersfield and Manchester Piccadilly are likely to be very busy and we would encourage fans to travel as early as possible to ensure they are not disappointed.
