Giants fans enjoy trip to the Shay
“WE’LL make it our home from home.”
That was the feeling among Giants fans as they streamed away from The Shay at Halifax last night.
They’d just seen their heroes battle for a 40-18 win over Castleford Tigers in their temporary home for three games.
And the general impression was: It’s a decent stadium and we can make it a fortress.
There were one of two hiccups, with some angry fans returning to their cars in residential streets close to the stadium to find they had been slapped with parking tickets.
And some complained that snack bars in parts of the ground had run out of coffee and of food long before the end of the game, which was delayed for 25 minutes.
But Giants fans in the 5,000-plus crowd were generally happy with the move.
l Chris Oldfield, a season ticket holder from Meltham, was at the game with six-year-old son Jake and they were all smiles after the match.
“It was a good game and the atmosphere inside the ground was good.
“I thought the facilities were fine and I think we can enjoy our time here with the games we have to come.”
l The Brooke family from Linthwaite was also full of praise for the Shay facilities.
Mel, husband Richard and children Jack, 12, and Harriet, 10, are regulars at Galpharm games and enjoyed their venture seven miles along the A629.
Mel said: “It was fine.
“I certainly think we’ll do all right in this move away from the Galpharm”.
Richard added: “I thought we played fairly well tonight.
“We started off very well but then Castleford had a good 10-minute spell and it took us some time to get back into the game.
