THE police officer and former Mr Gay UK accused of a series of sexual assaults is due to learn his fate today.
A jury is expected to consider whether Huddersfield 999 response officer Mark Carter, 28, sexually assaulted three men and raped and punched another after a Christmas night out in Leeds.
Carter was suspended from West Yorkshire Police following the allegations made after his works night out on December 18, 2009.
The trial, which began on June 6, is due to draw to a close today as the jury retire to consider their verdict.
Yesterday both defence and prosecution barristers delivered their closing speeches.
Andrew Smith, defending, told the jury how the assault complainants had not contacted the police to make an allegation against Carter, but the allegations arose after a thorough police investigation.
Mr Smith referred to the CCTV seen earlier in the week from the Etap Hotel, Leeds, where the alleged rape is believed to have happened.
He said the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, initially told police that his reason for going in the room was the fact that he was pulled in by his hair.
“This is not seen on the CCTV outside the room, it is not good enough to say it has happened but it is not shown on CCTV.
“He also said that he wanted to help Carter back safely back to his room, so why did he go in?”
