A CHARITY helping miners, ex-miners and their families has urged those in need to get in touch.
The Coal Industry Social Welfare Organisation offers free, confidential assistance to people in mining communities and former mining areas.
The CISWO, which has its Yorkshire regional office in Pontefract, can help in areas relating to health, finance, personal and emotional issues.
It includes benefits advice and assistance with claims, access to funds for those facing financial hardship, help in maintaining independent living and information on health and disability
Regional manager Ian Lally said: “During the first three months of this year, our social work service received new, first-time referrals on behalf of 117 people.
“In total during the same period, 370 clients were contacted, 256 of those in the comfort of their own homes.
“Our service was able to secure a total of £104,237 for beneficiaries from unclaimed benefits, compensation claims, pension claims and by personal hardship grants awarded to people in severe financial hardship.”
