SISTERS Ciera and Kayley Evans are as close as any twins.

But the four-year-olds are being separated throughout the day because there is only one place available at their local village school.

While Ciera is making new friends at Flockton CE First School, Kayley has to stay at home with mum until its time to collect Ciera at the end of the school day.

The girls moved to Flockton from Golcar in April with their mum Carly. She took their birth certificates to Flockton CE First School to register them for the school but was told there was only one place available.

Two places were available for the twins at Grange Moor Primary School but single mum Miss Evans, who does not have a car, says the journey by public transport would be a nightmare.

She said: “I would have to catch a bus to Grange Moor at 8.05 every morning which means we would have to wait around before school opened and then the afternoon bus is at 4.15pm which would mean an even longer wait after school finishes.’’

The distance between the two schools is just under two miles.

Carly added: “Kayley has been heartbroken since Ciera went to school.

“She’s already missed so much of her schooling and I feel so upset for her. There’s nothing for her to do at home and she misses Ciera desperately. The school has been brilliant, but something needs sorting out soon.

“I’m really worried what will happen after the summer holidays when both girls should be in class one.”

The girls are hoping for good news before they celebrate their fifth birthday on July 21.

They were born in Huddersfield Royal Infirmary at 38 weeks weighing a healthy 6lb 12 oz for Ciera and 4lb 15oz for Kayley.

Miss Evans has appealed to Kirklees Council over the decision but is still waiting for an appeal date hearing.
