That Bar faces licence fight after allegations of after-hours drinking, empty fire extinguishers and assaults
POLICE want to close a Huddersfield nightclub because of its “blatant disregard” for public safety.
Officers allege there have been a string of problems at That Bar on King Street.
Councillors will decide this week whether to close the town centre nightclub, which was previously known as Bar Rouge.
Pc Richard Farrand has compiled a report for Kirklees Council’s Licensing Panel about problems at That Bar.
His allegations include:
A person was attacked in the smoking area at 2am on March 14.
Another assault occurred in the club at 2.30am on April 4. Police later discovered that CCTV cameras had been turned off at the time of the incident.
Alcohol was sold until 6am on May 2 – two hours later than the licence allows.
Two fire extinguishers on the ground floor of the venue were empty.
Bare wires were exposed on the fire alarm at the foot of the stairs.
Smoke detectors above the dance floor were de-activated.
An emergency light above the stairs was missing, meaning the “extremely dark” area would be dangerous if there was a fire.
The first-floor fire exit was blocked by scaffolding and a propane gas bottle.
The ground-floor disabled toilet was used as a store room.
The club did not have a safe for seized drugs. Any illegal narcotics taken from customers were “flushed down the toilet” by staff.
Pc Farrand called on councillors to revoke the club’s licence.
