A WATER main burst in spectacular fashion in Kirkburton today.

Drivers had to be diverted after the main burst in Turnshaws Road, near the junction with North Road - and sent a water spout more than 40 feet into the air.

It happened about 6am and water was still pouring out of the burst pipe at 9am, before Yorkshire Water engineers were able to shut off the supplies.

It is not known how many properties were affected by the burst.
