IT is a hive of activity at Emley today.

An army of volunteers are hard at work getting ready for Emley Show 2011 on Saturday.

And they are keeping their fingers crossed for a continuation of the good weather – in the hope they can repeat last year’s attendance of about 15,000.

The show is a staple of the Huddersfield summer calendar and since its move to the new site just below the giant TV mast, it has grown and grown.

Organisers try and vary the timetable of events each year but the old favourites are always there and always popular.

They include huge livestock classes featuring the best cattle, sheep, horses and goats from all over the region and the country.

Many of the horse classes attract top-quality showjumping and riders and run throughout the day.

There is also a large dog show, with classes not just for the specialist breeders but also for children with their pets.

And in the main arenas there is a programme of entertainment throughout the day including this year llama racing, a dog display team, a martial arts display and a hound show by the Rockwood Harriers.

Show secretary Sue Britton said: “It’s all hands on at the moment with a lot of work to do.
