A BUSY street was sealed offf in Huddersfield today - because of a hearing aid.

Police had to shut down Northumberland Street for almost an hour starting at just after 5pm after a suspicious package was discovered in the town's main post office.

Dozens of workers were evacuated from the office and traffic including buses were diverted.

But the alarm ended when tests revealed the package contained nothing more than a hearing aid.

"It was a genuine mistake" said a police spokesman.
