FIRE crews told of an "ambush" in Sheepridge last night.

The Huddersfield fire crew came under a hail of stones and bottles afer being called to deal with a rubbish blaze in a bus shelter on Bradley Boulevard.

One officer said they were attacked by a large number of youths, many wearing hooded tops, who had been hiding behind a wall.

The fire engine was damaged by missiles before being drven away from the scene.

There were calls also calls to Sheepridge Road last night and Salendine Nook High School.
