A POOL player was robbed and beaten by a mob during Tuesday’s disturbance.

And friends of the injured man were forced to carry the 26-year-old to an ambulance because of a hostile crowd in the area.

The player was having a cigarette outside The Top Club, Sheepridge Road, when a gang of about 25 yobs swarmed around him.

The gang stole his phone and began beating him until club members managed to drag the injured man back inside.

An ambulance was called but the emergency vehicle was unable to reach the scene because a mob had gathered, a club member said yesterday.

The man, who suffered leg injuries in the assault, was carried in a chair by club members to the ambulance, which was waiting down the street.

The man’s father blasted the yobs.

He said: “They’re a set of morons who’ve spoilt it for the whole community.

“He was outside smoking and all of a sudden it turned nasty and we had to shut the whole club.

“Thankfully he wasn’t too badly injured. Some of the other team had to run outside and grab him.”

The man’s father also criticised the police’s response: “I know the police were stretched but even the ambulance couldn’t get up. We had to carry him down on a chair.”

West Yorkshire Police declined to comment on their response to the incident.
