POLICE arrested five more people in Huddersfield last night - including two 15-year-olds - in connection with Tuesday's disturbances.

In total, eleven people aged 14 to 22 were arrested overnight in connection with incidents of disorder in Yorkshire earlier this week.

The arrests, in Huddersfield, Leeds and Wakefield, take the total number of arrests in West Yorkshire to 23.

As well as the Huddersfield arrests, four teenagers were arrested in the Chapeltown area of Leeds and two were detained in Wakefield in connection with posts on social networking sites.

West Yorkshire Police said the teenagers arrested in Leeds were aged 14, 17, and two were 15.

Two of the males arrested in Huddersfield were aged 15, one was 16, one 17 and one 22.

They were held in connection with incidents in the Deighton and Sheepridge areas where bins were torched in the road, firefighters attacked and the Top Club damaged by yobs.

A 19-year-old man, from the Portobello area of Wakefield, and a 15-year-old boy, from the Eastmoor area of Wakefield, were arrested on suspicion of inciting disorder in relation to posts on social networking sites.

All of those arrested were in custody in police stations across the county.

A police spokesman said officers were conducting searches of a number of properties in connection with the arrests.

Assistant Chief Constable John Parkinson said: "Officers are working around the clock to identify those responsible for the disorder and other criminal activity we have seen this week so they can be quickly brought to justice.

"I would once again like to thank the vast majority of people within these communities, who have been incredibly supportive of their local officers.

"I would also ask for their patience as we continue working to trace the very small minority who have been involved in these incidents.

"Our Neighbourhood Policing Teams are committed to working closely with local people to keep their communities safe, by ensuring there is a larger and more visible presence to offer reassurance and to tackle incidents at the earliest opportunity."

Twelve arrests were made in West Yorkshire earlier this week.

Six men, who were arrested in connection with incidents in Huddersfield on Tuesday night and Wednesday, remain in custody.

Five youths, who were arrested on suspicion of burglary and damage in connection with incidents in Huddersfield on Tuesday night and Wednesday, have been bailed pending further inquiries.

A 19-year-old woman, from Wakefield, was arrested and charged on suspicion of encouraging violent disorder after an invitation to riot was allegedly posted on Facebook.

She was bailed to appear before Wakefield Magistrates' Court on August 24.
