Youngsters call for revamp of Greenhead Park skate park
SKATERS are asking Kirklees Council to ramp it up at their skate park.
The group of youngsters say that the skate park was the only thing ignored in the multi-million pound revamp at Greenhead Park.
But now they plan to meet park officials to see what can be done.
Daniel Walker, who uses the facility nearly every day, said: “Basically, the skate park was missed in all the refurbishments and we want people to know that we’re serious about our hobbies and we’d like something done about it.
“It’s a bit of a health hazard at the moment – with cracks in the concrete and potholes. They installed railings without asking us and lots of people keep crashing into them.
“There’s limited space with only half of the area we’ve got used as the skate park so it gets cramped.
“We’d like it to be refurbished, repaired and possibly stretched out.”
The skate park is also used for BMX bikes and includes one half-pipe and two quarter-pipes.
Daniel, from Linthwaite, said: “It’s really popular – there are about 20 people down here every day and lots of kids like to use it too.
“It would be nice to have a bit where the kids could skate and learn to skate and ride without crashing into people.
“We want to keep skating and BMXing going instead of letting it die out.
“They got the tennis courts re-done and the basketball court but they are hardly used.”
