HUDDERSFIELD star Jodie Whittaker is back on our cinema screens again this week.
She has a key part in One Day – the film tipped to be a summer blockbuster.
One Day is the film of the novel by David Nicholls, published in 2009, which features Hollywood heavyweight Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess in the lead roles.
The film went on limited release yesterday but is set to pack cinemas from today.
It tells the love story of a young couple who spent the night together on the night of their college graduation.
Dexter and Em are shown each year on the same date to see where they are in their lives. They are sometimes together, sometimes not, on that day.
Jodie, of Skelmanthorpe, plays the part of Em’s friend Tilly.
And she gets to don full wedding regalia for the eagerly-anticipated film adaptation.
Although Whittaker is a surprise casting for the slobby best friend part and in the book is much admired, the actress is trying not to be weighed down by people’s expectations.
She said: “When I say I’m doing One Day, everyone goes, ‘That’s my favourite book.’ Pressure!
“It is hard because when you watch a film you’re like, ‘That’s not how I imagined Gandalf,’ although I did think Ian McKellen was amazing.
“But at least David Nicholls wrote the adaptation of One Day.”
Hollywood actress Hathaway says she tuned into Yorkshire-based soap Emmerdale while honing her accent for the film.
The Oscar-nominated actress appeared with co-star Jim Sturgess on the pink carpet at London’s Westfield shopping centre for the film’s premiere.
Hathaway, who wore a floor-length white lace gown by fashion house Alexander McQueen, plays Yorkshire girl Emma in the tragic love story, which catches up with a pair of friends on the same day of the year for 20 years.
