Woman injured in four vehicle crash at Berry Brow
A WOMAN was hurt after her car was shunted under a van.
A main road had to be sealed off after a doctor was flown to the scene in Berry Brow following the four-vehicle smash early yesterday afternoon.
The crash – involving a Ford Mondeo estate, a Suzuki Swift, a Ford Transit box van and a black Audi saloon – happened on Woodhead Road at about 1.10pm.
It is thought the Mondeo crashed into the rear of the Suzuki pushing it beneath the van, which in turn collided with an Audi.
The Mondeo and Suzuki were badly damaged in the crash while the van sustained moderate damage.
The Audi sustained minor damage.
The doctor was flown in by helicopter to check the severity of the woman’s condition after she was thought to have suffered spinal injuries. She was cut from her car and taken to hospital, though her injuries were not thought to be serious.
The driver of the Mondeo, believed to be in his 40s, was cut from his vehicle by firefighters from Huddersfield and Holmfirth before he too was taken to hospital.
The road was closed by police and reopened at 3.30pm.
A witness said: “I was just watching TV when I heard a horn sound and a big smash. It sounded like a gunshot.
“I nearly jumped off the sofa.
“I came out to have a look and the wreckage was pretty awful.
“The driver of the Mondeo looked OK. He was lifted out by the fire brigade. I’m not sure how bad he was.
“There was an old couple in the Suzuki. The woman was lifted out but her husband walked out. He was just in shock.
