A FOOD stall owner could lose his licence after reports of anti-social behaviour near the pub where he is based.

The car of a former Fartown player was attacked in one incident, near The Waggon and Horses, Bradford Road.

And Eton Douglas could lose the right to sell Caribbean food from a trailer in the car park after complaints from councillors and Malcolm Branch, former Fartown second row forward.

Kirklees Council gave Mr Douglas a three-month licence in May allowing him to sell food from a trailer behind the Hillhouse pub.

The council’s Regulatory Panel will decide next week whether he can carry on trading.

Clr Judith Hughes has written to the panel complaining about anti-social behaviour associated with the trailer.

On July 22, the Greenhead Labour woman wrote: “I have had another complaint this week from Mr Malcolm Branch who lives on Bradford Road.

“He says that ever since the van arrived he and his wife have suffered from noise, rubbish and obstruction with the cars.

“He and his wife have to drive around the back to get to their parking place. Cars regularly block the right of way.

“Mrs Branch apparently asked one person to move their car and was sworn at by the man in question. On another occasion, Mr Branch asked a man to pick up his rubbish when he threw it on the floor and was given verbal abuse.”

Clr Hughes wrote to the panel again three days later to describe another incident.

She wrote: “Mr Branch telephoned this morning. He tried to get to the back of his house and the road was blocked again.

“He asked the group to move their cars and his car was damaged by this group of people hanging around the mobile canteen.

“He telephoned the police who came out to see him, but the perpetrators had entered the pub and the policeman was told by his superiors not to enter the pub in case things escalated.”

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said yesterday he could not find a record of the incident.

Mr Branch, who scored 22 tries for Fartown in 1978/79 – a club record for a forward – declined to comment on the dispute yesterday.

Kirklees leader Clr Mehboob Khan, who represents the area, has also written to the panel objecting to the food stall.

The Labour man said residents in the area had observed “indiscriminate parking, litter and noise nuisance”.
