GRANDMOTHER Margaret Robertson wants to make her grandson’s dream come true.

The Fartown grandmother hopes a local rugby league club can offer her Australian-born grandson Tom some training during a forthcoming trip.

The rugby-mad teenager is already captain of his school team.

But his kind-hearted grandmother wants to welcome him to Huddersfield with a surprise after a difficult few months.

Tom’s mother Josie spent four months in hospital following a car crash.

Family and friends rallied round and got Tom, 13, to Albury Rugby League Junior Puma games in New South Wales – some of them more than 100km away – as he’s the team captain.

And she wants to surprise him with a treat in the birthplace of rugby league.

Margaret, of Fartown, said: “He’s always been into rugby. He’s the captain of his local junior team and loves the game – it’s a great way for him to exert all his energy.

“But he’s always wanted to find out more about rugby over here, the training and the games and see how different it is.

“After everything he’s been through with his mum it would be nice.”

Tom’s mother Josie was left fighting for her life after a car accident in Albury, New South Wales, 18 months ago.

She had returned from seeing the Canberra Raiders game when her car collided with another vehicle and she crashed into the central reservation.

She suffered a severed artery, broke a collar bone, shattered her right arm, broke a leg and was left with bleeding to the brain.

Tom and his sister Zoe visited her in hospital for four months along with their father Iain, a former Yorkshire youth rugby player.
