SINGING group The Charity Dreamgirls is putting on the showbiz style – to encourage more people to get involved in helping good causes.
The all-girl group, led by Holywell Green-based businesswoman Kate Hardcastle, has helped dozens of charities since its formation five years ago by staging concerts and events.
Now Kate and friends Kate Peters and Jenny Smith have created a week of five showbiz-related events to highlight the fun to be had by supporting charities.
The Awareness Week comes as latest figures show that volunteering levels are falling – and the number of young people volunteering is down to 2008 levels.
Said Kate Hardcastle: “I’m overwhelmed by the successes of the Charity Dreamgirls. I want to spread the message to a wider audience and I hope the Awareness Week will be a record-smashing event.”
The Awareness Week will consist of five individual events – culminating in a Five Years of Magic concert on Saturday, October 8, at the Victoria Theatre in Halifax.
In the run-up to the concert, The Charity Dreamgirls & Friends will be hosting four events across West Yorkshire – all designed to appeal to an array of audiences.
Budding models will take to the catwalk to show off Yorkshire’s best fashion labels at The Fabulous Fashion Show on Tuesday, October 4, at The Venue in Halifax.
A Vintage Cinema Night will be held on Wednesday, October 5, at The Media Centre in Huddersfield – complete with red carpet and paparazzi.
The Great Big Charity Pub Quiz will be staged on Thursday, October 6, at The Cotton Factory in Huddersfield with teams of four competing in a music quiz based on television’s Never Mind the Buzzcocks.
And The Charity Dreamgirls aims to show that Yorkshire’s Got Talent on Friday, October 7, with aspiring artistes performing in front of a celebrity judging panel at the Batley Frontier.
Kate added: “Charity is all about getting new members of the public involved – be it as an act at the talent show or as part of the audience at our cinema event.
“We want people to know that contributing to charity can be fun as well as gratifying.”
Tickets for all five events are available at www.charitydreamgirls.co.uk
Since Kate founded the group in 2007, The Charity Dreamgirls have raised funds for causes including the Stroke Association, Help for Heroes, the Alzheimer’s Society, Leonard Cheshire Disability and the Retail Trust and has worked with stars including Andrew Lloyd Webber, soul singer Martha Reeves and Smokey Robinson.
