A SERIES of history hours will be staged in Greenhead Park in Huddersfield this autumn.
The sessions will be held in the park’s Community Room from 12.30pm.
They will feature talks by different local historians.
The first is on September 7 and will be by John Pearson, the author of a newly published history on Beaumont Park.
He will be giving an illustrated talk about the park, which was opened in 1883 as the town’s first public park.
On October 5, historian Cyril Pearce will be talking about Alderman Arthur Gardiner.
Mr Gardiner chaired the Parks Committee from 1938 to 1967 and played a key role in the wartime Holidays at Home programme.
On November 2, Greenhead Park’s war memorials will be the topic for a talk by military historian John Rumsby.
The talk will take place as the park prepares to stage its Remembrance Day celebrations.
The regular history hours are free and are organised for the public by the Friends of Greenhead Park.
