A WIDOW fears someone will be killed on the road outside her Holmfirth home.
Mrs Shirley Muffitt, 58, of Station Road, has warned for years about the dangers of traffic turning into nearby Bridge Lane.
The final straw came yesterday when a huge metal-sided lorry smashed into Mrs Muffitt’s front wall, ripping out railings and damaging steps.
The driver of the navy blue truck failed to stop and Mrs Muffitt called in the police.
Several years ago residents launched a petition calling for Bridge Lane to become one-way.
There have been several near misses and residents’ walls have suffered many bumps and scrapes as drivers bid to make the ultra-sharp turn.
Mrs Muffitt is now preparing for a battle with Kirklees Council. “We have had bumps and scrapes before because two cars can’t pass each other and one has to reverse,” she said. But this was just horrendous. The pavement is so narrow that if anyone had been walking there they could have been killed.”
Houseproud Mrs Muffitt had just finished repainting the railings and had planted out her window box with pansies. All her hard work was left crushed in the road.
