A COUNCILLOR has accused a rival party of a “disgusting” refusal to take responsibility.
Clr Christine Smith has attacked the Greens on Kirklees Council for declining to take their seats on planning committees.
“They won’t take responsibility,” said the Kirkburton Conservative.
“The Greens are always going on about planning issues but they won’t sit on the committees.”
Clr Smith was speaking after the four-strong Green group declined to take its seat on the Planning and Highways Committee, which she chairs.
The party has given its seat to Holme Valley North independent Clr Terry Lyons.
Clr Smith said: “The Planning and Highways Committee covers issues like public rights of way and the proposed Tesco development in Huddersfield.
“The Greens have a seat on the committee, but they won’t take it, which I think is disgusting.”
The party also refuses to take its seat on the planning sub-committees covering the Huddersfield and Heavy Woollen areas.
