CONCERNED residents will get a second chance to quiz officials over a plan to dump thousands of tonnes of household waste near Kirkheaton.
Rochdale company P Casey Enviro Ltd has already been issued a draft permit to use Lane Side Quarry off Bellstring Lane.
The site was originally used to quarry clay, coal and brick-making materials but was used as landfill in the 1970s and 80s.
The company was given planning permission to convert the site more than 10 years ago.
The Environment Agency is currently running a public consultation on the proposal, but is expected to issue a full permit later this month.
A meeting has already been held in Kirkheaton, but now a second one is set to be held tomorrow for people living in neighbouring Mirfield.
The meeting has been secured by Mirfield Tory Clr Martyn Bolt, who was angry after Mirfield councillors missed the Kirkheaton meeting because they were given the wrong date.
Residents will have the chance to question key Kirklees Council, police and environmental officers on the plans for the site.
Clr Bolt said he was concerned about traffic and pollution that could be generated.
He said: “I always try and bring consultations about Mirfield issues into Mirfield and by getting support from the police, who will have to enforce traffic regulation and the Environment Agency who will monitor materials taken into the site, as well as the Council’s own planning enforcement team, residents will have their chance to question people directly.”
A previous meeting at Kirkheaton Parish Centre saw people living near the site complain about preparatory work taking place.
Kirklees Council said it was monitoring the preparation of the site.
The meeting takes place at St John’s Church, Upper Hopton, tomorrow evening at 7pm.
