91-year-old Bradley pensioner Elsie Byron tells of terrifying burglary ordeal - hear her interview

SHE is a 91-year-old woman – but she bravely had a go at a burglar in her home.

Elsie Byron was shocked and terrified when she discovered a man in her bedroom in broad daylight.

But she revealed last night that she struggled with him and tried to grab his cap as he made his getaway.

Mrs Byron spoke of her ordeal as police stepped up the hunt for the intruder, who struck at around 10.30am on Monday at the pensioner’s home in Stuart Place, Bradley.

Mrs Byron, who lives alone, said: “I came out of the shower upstairs and I saw this movement over the far side of the room so I started to get dressed.

“I couldn’t tell what it was at first then a man stood up and ran past me.

“He couldn’t get down the stairs quickly as the chair lift was at the top.”

She bravely followed the man to the top of the stairs and tried to get his baseball cap off him to reveal his identity.
