A BID to tempt new investors into Huddersfield will be made today.
Developers from across the country are due in town to see some of the highest-profile sites and investment opportunities.
And one new option for them to consider is the current Kirklees College complex, off New North Road.
That complex, which includes the former Huddersfield Infirmary buildings and newer education blocks, will be surplus to requirements when the college moves to the new Waterfront site off Chapel Hill next year.
Other sites lined up for the “Make It Huddersfield” tour are:
The Waterfront project between Chapel Hill and Manchester Road which will have offices and commercial opportunities around the new Kirklees College.
The planned HD One project, based on land around the Galpharm Stadium with space for bars, restaurants and a hotel.
Spindlegate, a retail site off Leeds Road which already has a new pub and a nearly-built hotel.
St George’s Warehouse, the historic building close to the railway station.
News of the visit comes 24 hours after Kirklees Council leader Mehboob Khan insisted that new developers have to be attracted into the town to help guarantee future economic success.
The visit, organised by Kirklees Council in partnership with those behind a number of the schemes, includes a hard hat tour of the Waterfront development.
A council spokesman said: “Around 10 potential investors, all specially invited, will be on the day-long tour and will see exactly why Huddersfield is a great place for business to thrive.
“They are coming from all over the country – from Harrogate and Stockton-on-Tees in the north, to Berkshire and London in the south.
“With Phase 1 of the Waterfront project already under way in the form of a brand new campus for Kirklees College, the group will see at first hand the commercial land that will be ready for construction from April 2012.
