Golcar knife man Peter Vant jailed after terrorising family at BBQ

A DRUNKEN man who terrified adults and children at a family barbecue has been jailed for two years.

Barry Heathcote, his wife, mother and a group of about six children were enjoying an early evening gathering at a property in Laburnam Grove, Golcar, last August when angry Peter Vant suddenly turned up on the street outside.

Vant, 31, who had previous convictions for violence, came towards the garden and at one point ripped off his own T-shirt.

Prosecutor Ken Green told Bradford Crown Court yesterday that Vant shouted at Mr Heathcote ‘I’m going to stab you’ before leaving.

Having picked up a wooden chair, Vant then returned to the Golcar house and smashed it over the wall which surrounded the garden.

“This was all in front of Mr Heathcote, his family and of course the children,” said Mr Green.

“This clearly upset the children. Mr Heathcote and other members of his family tried to remonstrate with the defendant and told him to leave them alone.

“Notwithstanding that there continued to be threats and abuse from this defendant towards Mr Heathcote in particular... again threatening to slash him up.”
